| The Alexander Alliance is proud to announce the establishment of a teacher training program in Northern New Mexico. CLASSES BEGAN IN MARCH 2003 LIVING ARTS CURRICULUM |
Within the languages of American Indians there is no word for "art". For Native People, everything is art and everyone is an artist. Exploration and creation, through any medium, is a fundamental part of being alive, of knowing oneself and one's world. Visioning and creating together is a foundation of community - whether a family, a tribe, an alliance, or a world.
The Living Arts program is a study of Alexander's principles through the "arts" of our daily life: visual, musical, textile, tactile, culinary, and movement, among others. Together, we can re-member and re-create ourselves through these life arts. Becoming a student at Alexander Alliance Southwest means making a clear commitment to studying over a three year period of time. Each year of study is comprised of several learning events and one 8-day intensive. Most events are held in and around Santa Fe, NM in throughout the year. The 8-day intensive is held at the Claymont Center for Continuous Education in the Shenondoah Valley of West Virginia the beginning of July. Additional and/or make-up classes can be taken at the Alexander Alliance school in Philadelphia, PA. Upon completion of the training program, there is an opportunity to continue your studies as a teaching apprentice. Requisites for Admissions 1. A completed application to the Alexander Alliance. 2. A copy of your resume. 3. A letter of recommendation from an Alexander teacher with whom you have studied. 4. A letter articulating what draws you toward the Alexander Work. Let us know of your hopes for yourself during and upon completion of your becoming an Alexander teacher. 5. A minimum of 30 hours of direct study with an Alexander teacher, and/or one week of study at the Alexander Alliance or at the Annual Summer Retreat Course. 6. An interview with Robyn Avalon, Martha and/or Bruce Fertman. 7. Clear indications of social maturity. We look for good team players who know how to work constructively with fellow students, and with teachers. 8. A propensity for and a desire to teach. Tuition The tuition for the class beginning March 2003 is $6,000 annually for three years. Payments are due on the first of March, August and November. We look forward to the opportunity to work with you, and to help you on your path to becoming a teacher of the Alexander Technique. |
